Endurance Ride Volunteers Needed

 The 2nd Annual Montana de Oro Endurance ride is scheduled for Saturday June 5th and we need volunteers.  We had such good volunteer support last year SLOPOST made almost $4,000.00 that went back into trail maintenance and tools in MdO State Park. 

Plus we did quite a bit of multi-use pre-ride  (mt.bikers and equestrians) trail work that the trails were NOT impacted at all by the ride, and in fact were "photo documented" to be in better shape post-ride, this is known as the "PAY IT FORWARD" endurance ride.

And we were voted "best ride food" in AERC magazine because Coast Mounted Assistance and other volunteers brought desserts and side dishes to compliment the delicious bbq.

We need volunteers for:

• trail monitors at the tricky intersections and the road crossings, you can sign up for 3 hour shift
• a few more P&R people to help at the vet stops
• 2 people to help with parking and volunteer food on Friday
• 1-3 person to help Kathy Longacre with food shopping, making volunteer sandwiches, and organizing the potluck
• We also need people to bring pot luck side dishes and desserts for the Saturday night (June5) dinner
• Trail work on 2 more Friday afternoons before the ride- we start at 2-2:30 and finish about 5:30-6pm contact  Debby Lyon if you are interested in helping.

Craig Shannon, winemaker of Per Bacco Cellars, will pair his incredible wines with fantastic appetizers by Big Sky Café and Mama’s Meat Ball restaurant.   

This evening will include discussions about Per Bacco Wines and the food pairings. 

There will be silent auctions and a raffle.

Monty Roberts is Back in the USA

Monty Roberts has announced several upcoming clinics in California; rare appearances in the past few years. Roberts spends about 300 days per year touring worldwide to live audiences interested in his renowned concepts of gentle horse training. He has toured continually since the release of his first book The Man Who Listens to Horses, a New York Times bestseller in 1996.

Roberts has revolutionized the way many horses are trained today worldwide. His Flag Is Up Farms in Solvang, California, is a highlight in the newly published book, Stables, by Kathryn Masson from Rizzoli Press for which a book signing will be held in Santa Barbara June 11. Flag Is Up Farms is world renowned for developing and maintaining the Join-Up International teaching of force-free horse training.

On May 24-26, Roberts will teach a three day clinic, RIDING WITH RESPECT: striving for performance from your horse through non-violent training. This is the first ridden clinic given by Roberts at Flag Is Up Farms in over 10 years. Riders from all levels will learn Monty’s perspective of understanding the horse’s generous nature. All disciplines and types of horses are attending.

Roberts has been a supporter of the nearby Light Hands Horsemanship clinic and will appear there for a demonstration on May 22 with his champion reining cow horse Nice Chrome. Roberts will besharing the expertise that enables him to win nine world’s championships in the show ring.

In August, Roberts will personally teach and demonstrate over five intensive days with a cross section of breeds exhibiting training challenges such as bucking, bolting and biting. The August 16-20 clinic will also be held on Flag Is Up Farms in Solvang, California. Roberts holds several degrees including two doctorates in behavioral sciences. This course is offered to people from all over the world who wish to learn from a master educator.
MONTY ROBERTS first gained widespread fame with the release of his New York Times Best Selling book, The Man Who Listens To Horses; a chronicle of his life and development of his non-violent horse training methods called Join-Up®. Monty grew up on a working horse farm as a firsthand witness to traditional, often violent methods of horse training and breaking the spirit with an abusive hand.
