Beach Access Threatened-Act Now!

Please read the following.  Letters need to be into the City of Grover Beach by Jan. 28th.

Members of the Central Calf. Coastal Community,
In case you have not heard the City of Grover Beach is collaborating with the State park officials in planning a Lodge and Conference Center (LCC) at the corner of Grand and Hwy 1.  The complex will take both sides of the street from Hwy 1 to the ocean.  The State Park will lease this land to a Developer for 50 year increments.

We became aware of this plan because Ride Nipomo Equestrian group was paying attention and noticed that they were reducing the number of parking spaces for horses.  After reviewing the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) we noticed they were reducing all parking and limiting everyone’s access to the beach.  The LCC will have a large parking lot for their guests.

We are not happy that this development is removing areas devoted for public State Park Lands and leasing it to a commercial developer in an area which is growing rapidly and needs more parking spaces not less.  We are concerned about using public park land to build a commercial resort.

The project does not show adequate horse parking, motor home parking, or parking for local citizens who wish to access the beach.  This concerns us about the overall planning for this proposed project.  The idea of removing public State Park areas from public use is unacceptable.   This issue limits access to the beach, and our land and park will be gone.  Where will the dog walkers, joggers, walkers, bike riders, and horse riders park?

The deadline for submission is January 28, 2011.  You can e-mail or send regular mail.  The state must address every concern sent to the addressee below:

Boot Media Press Release

For Immediate Release:
New Equestrian Television Network Releases Channel Information for Houston:

Also Announces Next Affiiate Channel in California.
Boot Media, LLC, which recently announced the national roll-out of a new television network dedicated to equestrian pursuits and farm and ranch country lifestyles, has released detailed information on its upcoming spring launch in Houston, as well as a second affiliate channel location.
"PegasusTV" will launch as digital channel 57.4 in the 10-county Houston television market on March 1, 2011, and have the distinction of being the first local affiliate channel of the new nationwide Pegasus Television Network. Pegasus is the mythical flying horse of Greek legend and is recognized throughout the world as a symbol of imagination, inspiration and the creative spirit of mankind.
The second local affiliate channel will be located in Fresno, in the heart of California's central valley, the hub of the state's agricultural industry. Following the Fresno launch, the debut of channels in other targeted cities will take place throughout Texas, California, Ohio and Florida. In the Houston and Fresno markets alone, PegasusTV will provide immediate network access to more than six million people.
One of the signature components in every market served by the new local PegasusTV channels is a commitment to allocate up to six hours of broadcast time at no cost each weekend for the exclusive use of local equestrian clubs and organizations, local colleges and universities with horse-oriented educational programs. This access also will be extended to similar organizations and educational institutions focused on farm animal care, maintenance and education.
While Pegasus Television Network has already targeted more than 25 high "horsehold" television markets for the inaugural roll-out of its affiliate channels, the network is readily available to any area in the country and welcomes contact from parties interested in establishing affiliate relationships. Independent cable systems in small rural communities are also included in the network's affiliate marketing plan.
Potential national and local advertisers are encouraged to contact Boot Media LLC for complete information on many cost-effective advertising options. For example, Houston's channel will offer rates as low as $10 for a :30 second television spot, with a minimum package buy of just $50.00, one of the lowest advertising rates to be found anywhere in the equestrian industry, in any medium.
Currently, the Pegasus Television Network is actively seeking and licensing programming content both domestically and internationally representing a wide variety of equestrian, farm and ranch animal and rural lifestyle programs.

PegasusTV will also be available on the Internet for those without local television access.
Equifava, Inc. continues to provide marketing and strategic planning services for Boot Media, LLC in the development of the Pegasus Television Network.

For general inquiries or for more information regarding Advertising, Programming, Affiliate or Investor Relations, please email info@bootmediallc.com.

Grover Beach City Council Meeting Notes: Horse Staging Area

The Grover Beach City Council held its first of many meetings towards the beginnings of the new Beach Complex at the end of Grand Ave. in the horse staging area. I am not a secretary so bare with me with the notes I took.

1. EIR should be on the Grover Beach website Dec. 15 , the library, and at City Hall for people to look at.

2. 150 room motel, a restaurant to hold 160 people, a pool with an area to hold 80 people. 180,000 sq. feet of landscape, and a total of 415 parking spaces spread over the compound, also the dump station will be moved closer to one of the parks.

3. The first choice for the horse staging area is across from Finns in the dunes. It will go from the 1 ½ acre site to a ½ acre site. They probably will not put in spaces but it was stated if they did have spaces they would hold 10-15 rigs. There is a plan “B” if the Coastal Commission does not approve of moving the staging area into the dunes, but that was not addressed during the formal meeting.

4. Sequence of events Draft EIR-December 15-January 28 (45 days)/Draft EIR comment closes February/

5. Final EIR is released March/Planning Commission Hearing March/City Council Hearing April or May/Coastal Commission hearing TBD /Coastal Development Permit TBD

6. Linda Clarke has put together a committee to answer many of the questions we all have and want to voice to the Grover Beach City Council. Another email will soon follow with contact information for these various individuals. (Individuals were picked representing the majoring of the horse groups in the county.) You may also contact the Grover Beach City Council members with your concerns. For further information you may contact Linda @

South County Group Chiro Appointments

Via Sheila Mangione, Ride Nipomo

"My daughter's barrel horse needs chiro treatments about every 6 weeks. We found a great chiropractor in Paso who is willing to schedule some visits to South County if there are 4-5 horses. His rates are very reasonable based on what I've heard from other people who get their horses treated. I'm wondering if there are other Ride Nipomo members who would be interested. I would be willing to coordinate a day for him to come down."

Dark Horse Farms Accepting Quality Show Jumpers & Derby Hunters

San Luis Obispo, CA - Dark Horse Farms is officially accepting quality show jumpers and derby hunters for the 2011 competition season. Established earlier this year Dark Horse Farms opens its doors this month offering individualized training programs for competitive equine athletes from young prospects to proven veterans. Professional rider and trainer Lisa Ciesniewski brings to the team over twenty-six years experience in the hunter jumper industry as a catch rider and competitor. By maintaining a very limited number of equines, Dark Horse Farms provides superior care, attention and training for each horse. Dark Horse Farms is not the typical training barn in that they do not offer lessons or coaching for riders but instead all of the attention is focused on training and developing horses into successful champions.

Venues on Dark Horse Farms tentative competition schedule for 2011 include; HITS Thermal, Northern Winter Classic, Blenheim Equisports, Memorial Day Classic, Woodside, Del Mar National, Sonoma Horse Park, Pebble Beach, Menlo Charity Show, USHJA Final, HITS Culpeper, Hampton Classic, HITS Saugerties, Sacramento International and LA National.

Owners of eligible show horses should contact Dark Horse Farms at their earliest convenience as spaces are limited. Quality consignment horses are also welcome and will benefit from the teams extensive sales network and professional marketing program.
